Check out this video for a quick overview of the lodging options along the Wine Road.
The diversity in types of lodgings, amenities, locations, and price ranges allows any visitor to find the perfect fit. Let’s explore some of the options, giving you a flavor of what else you might find tucked along the Wine Road.
Close In But Feels Miles Away
Daily life includes a lot of noise, commotion, and travel stress. Leaving all that behind can be a top priority while on a Wine Country getaway. A stay along the Wine Road can put you near the heart of the action, yet far away from the hustle and bustle. There are many options that are only minutes from a town, yet feel secluded and peaceful.
Inn at Occidental is located in the heart of the hamlet of Occidental. The serenity of the gardens, sitting porches and grounds are the perfect backdrop for leaving the world work and its worries behind.
The Applewood Inn & Spa is just minutes from Guerneville, but far enough out that the quiet of the surrounding redwood trees is palpable. The inn has the enchantment of a Mediterranean villa just minutes from the Russian River, quaint towns, a variety of dining options, and, of course, excellent wine tasting options just a short drive away. If you are celebrating something special, the Applewood staff will arrange long stem roses, chocolates, a cheese course, or sparkling wine awaiting your arrival. You can also order a picnic for your wine tasting adventures.
Maybe you are looking for some old world charm nestled just far enough away that you aren’t even tempted to leave its solitude. The Old Crocker Inn, located a few minutes outside of Cloverdale, was originally a hunting retreat built in the 1880s by railroad magnate Charles Crocker. Today this B&B offers five lodge rooms, several cottages or suites, five acres of expansive grounds for strolling, a pool, multiple decks, and more. Though filled with plenty of old world charm, it also offers modern amenities if TV and Wi-Fi are on your must-have list.
If you enjoy being walking distance to town yet feel like you are in the countryside, check out West Sonoma Inn & Spa just blocks off the main street in Guerneville. Located on six acres with plenty of vineyard views and cottages surrounded by redwoods, this inn gives you plenty of options for relaxation yet is close enough to walk downtown to one of many dining options.
Historic Charm
If you crave the historic charm of an old Victorian house or country farmhouse, many the lodgings along the Wine Road offer just what you are seeking.
The Sonoma Orchid Inn’s rustic farmhouse comes with all the amenities you want along with the historic graces of a well-maintained property. Renowned for their fresh, hot, family-style breakfasts, this inn is perched on a hill just a moment away from the Russian River and surrounded by redwoods and native California oak trees.
Construction on the River Belle Inn was completed in 1875, and the ensuing years have endowed this large stately home with a colorful history. Located right on the Russian River at the edge of Healdsburg, the inn’s location is ideal if you want to be close in, but still feel like you’ve escaped.
If you tend toward the turrets and towers of a Victorian home, there are several options to choose from. In Cloverdale, Kelley & Young Wine Garden Inn has you stepping back to the early 1900s with its classic architecture and gardens. Inside you’ll find all the modern amenities carefully integrated into the original details of the home.
Pampered Luxury
Ready to immerse yourself in total luxury? The Wine Road has you covered there as well.
Located half way between Santa Rosa and Guerneville, the Farmhouse Inn will let you escape into its offerings from the moment you arrive. Enjoy rooms with curated wine refrigerators and feather beds, a Michelin-starred restaurant, sommelier-led wine tours, a full spa, and so much more.
If you want some historic charm with your luxury stay, try the Madrona Manor, located just a quick drive from downtown Healdsburg. The mansion was finished in 1881, and today houses a world-class restaurant and nine guest rooms. Several other period buildings were converted to guest rooms or suites, each perfectly appointed to reflect the period, but with all the luxuries you desire.
With vineyards on two sides and a privacy wall on the other sides, Vintner’s Inn gives you the sense of slipping into a private retreat. With a spa, café, lounge/bar, and a fine dining restaurant, leaving the grounds during your stay is optional. Located on the north end of Santa Rosa, the inn is about a half hour from most of the Wine Road member wineries and just minutes from the Santa Rosa airport.
If you prefer to stay in Healdsburg, you’re in luck. There are several luxury lodging options, all within a block or two of the Plaza. Hotel Les Mars brings the romance of old world luxury to Healdsburg, with the property furnished with 17th and 18th century antiques that complement its Parisian-style charm. Hotel Healdsburg provides modern luxury, while its companion lodgings, h2hotel and Harmon Guest House, offer a modern eco-chic vibe. The three properties share a solar-heated pool, rooftop deck, full spa access, and more.
Something For Everyone
If you prefer a more rustic, outdoors experience, check out the Cloverdale KOA or rent one of the glamping options at boon hotel+spa, just outside of Guerneville on the way to Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve.
If privacy, luxury, and a hilltop location is more your style, then explore Bella Villa Messina. Just a few minutes outside Healdsburg, the villa’s breathtaking panoramic views, pool, and decks may tempt you to hang out and read a book in between your Wine Road adventures.
