Taking Mom out to view the charming gardens along the Wine Road is a wonderful way to help her celebrate Mother’s Day. And, while you visit the winery gardens, you can pop into the tasting room for some happy sipping as well.
Gardens of all types enhance the beauty of wineries along the Wine Road. If you’ve not done a combo wine tasting and garden tour, many glorious gardens await.
Garden Tours
At Korbel Cellars, master horticulturists have transformed the grounds into a spectacular array of colors, textures, and aromas. In the Antique Rose Garden, you’ll view an impressive collection of more than 150 varieties of roses. The grounds and garden also offer perennials, shrubs, flowering trees, and native plants. The property is also home to several majestic redwood trees, including those that encircle the rose garden. Enjoy a complimentary garden tour Tuesday through Sunday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., mid-April through mid-October.
Kendall-Jackson Wine Estate & Gardens lets you explore their various gardens via a sensory tour and tasting, or you can stroll the grounds on your own. They offer four distinct garden spaces, some solely maintained for their beauty, while others are educational, like the demonstration garden with 27 different grape varieties planted. Some of the gardens provide fruit, vegetables, and herbs for their culinary team to create their renowned wine and food pairings. The gardens cover approximately four acres, and provide pleasure to viewers no matter the season. Please note, advance reservations are required for the guided garden tour.
Majestic Grounds & Gardens
To drink in spectacular views and wines, check out the Estate Tour & Tasting at Jordan Winery. This three-hour tour covers so many breathtaking vistas, including vineyards, lakes, the chef’s garden, an apiary, and more. This tour is available Thursday through Monday at 9:45 a.m. from May through October, with advance reservations.
Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery’s grounds and gardens are a feast for the eyes. Visitors are encouraged to stroll through the gated garden, which is always a joy to behold year round. Gorgeous flowerbeds frame the meandering paths, and as you across the footbridges, you’ll discover fishponds and gentle waterfalls. This garden is a delightful mix of trees, scrubs, perennials, and annuals. A total of five planted acres surround the winery, so your viewing pleasure isn’t just limited to the enclosed garden area. Be sure to take your time and view all the various floral vignettes.
Madrona Manor hosts many special events on their expansive lawns, but you don’t have to attend a wedding or stay at the hotel to visit the grounds. Come by for dinner or drinks on the porch, and wander through the gorgeous grounds and gardens. The Victorian era buildings add to the delightful cottage garden ambiance.
Beautiful Gardens
Many other wineries along the Wine Road have beautiful grounds and gardens. Dry Creek Vineyard maintains colorful gardens year-round that edge the lawn and picnic area. Plus, you can explore their charming insectary garden.
The Lynmar Estate gardeners work closely with the culinary team to produce a stunning array of edible plantings throughout the grounds. When ripe, the flowers, fruits, and vegetables are incorporated into the various wine and food pairings, reflecting the seasonal produce. If you want to visit these lovely gardens and also experience one of the Lynmar Estate wine and food pairings, be sure to make a reservation in advance.
Picnic tables and seating areas are scattered on the picturesque grounds of Thomas George Estates. After wine tasting, grab the picnic basket from you car and enjoy the flowerbeds, shade trees, and a game of bocce ball.
